  • Low anti-epileptic drug levels (poor compliance or withdrawal)
  • Drug toxicity
  • Alcohol withdrawal or toxicity
  • Hypoxia/anoxia
  • Systemic or CNS infection
  • Metabolic disorders (uraemia, electrolyte imbalance, hyper- or
    hypoglycaemia)
  • Head trauma
  • Cerebrovascular disease, including stroke
  • Brain tumour
  • Neurodegenerative disorders
  • Unknown aetiology
